Universal Curbside Recycling
Survey Results
For the past several months Bavarian has been conducting a universal curbside recycling survey to determine support for such a program. Given the nature of the resources necessary to launch such a large scale venture, i.e., equipment, personnel, etc., a high percentage of supportive respondents was critical for reasons of fiscal practicality and environmental concerns associated with the truck themselves.
While Bavarian has been an innovator in responsible environmental stewardship for nearly 75-years via such programs as Enviro-Watts and intelligent resource recovery that reduces the depletion of natural resources, any new recovery effort must share in this basic common sense philosophy and approach of helping, not hindering. In the case of curbside recycling, the results fell far short of the margins necessary. Additionally, we are finding in cities where recycling is available, but not mandatory, the participation percentages are low compared to the total customer-base.
Below are the results of our survey. Respondents were divided into the zip code in which they live and then compared to existing customers in that zip code, geographical considerations, fiscal soundness, etc. The program had to achieve a universal support percentage high enough to justify it. The average of our 33,883 possible respondents was less than half of one-percent.

While we are disappointed with the result ourselves, we are committed to continuing our efforts at our landfill and with our various other recycling partnerships. In the meantime, please check with your county's solid waste coordinator for recycling drop-off centers.
Thanks to all who took part in this survey.
