For nearly 75-years, Bavarian has been an innovative and responsible environmental steward. We have endeavored to help protect and enhance the public health and environment through our many services and policies of accepting no hazardous materials.
As you are probably aware, we were the first landfill in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to capture our methane gas through a state-of-the-art processing system and then convert it to Envirowatts with our GREEN ENERGY partner East Kentucky Power. This amazing project powers nearly 3500 homes per day. More recently, we have been involved in another innovative project that will help accelerate the decomposition process of the waste material, thereby producing more GREEN ENERGY for our community. We are the second landfill in the continental United States to offer this pioneering technology. As good as this technology is; we have developed a parallel system that makes the process even more efficient! Our parallel system is now being considered for patent, and the projects impact is earning us consideration for a prestigious environmental award.
Beyond our concern to reduce the greenhouse affect and aid in the development of alternative energy solutions, Bavarian recovers and promotes the use of recycled materials. At our Walton facility we pull a variety of materials out of the waste stream that help make an impact by reducing the depletion of natural resources. Materials such as various metal products, woods, and cardboard are routinely segregated and put back into the marketplace to serve the public good again as different products.
Clearly Bavarian has been right there in the lead since the beginning. However, we are always striving to improve not only our services, but also to strengthen our partnership with our community and neighbors. Therefore, over the next several months we will be conducting a feasibility survey for possible curbside recycling pick up. As with any venture, our community's opinion is critical, as is establishing the support for such a program.
