Bavarian & East Kentucky Power turned our landfill into a mini energy factory!
Bavarian is the FIRST facility in Kentucky to make electricity from the landfill
gas produced solely from trash. Every day, the gas from the landfill powers the equivalent of 3,500 homes with
electricity called "Enviro-Watts." It is our philosophy that many of the items that enter our
facility can be recycled to serve again; we believe in Resource Recovery that makes sense!
"Enviro-Watts" benefits to our environment are equivalent to:
—Removing emissions of more than 28,000 cars each year;
—Planting 38,000 acres of forest each year;
—Offsetting the use of 630 railroad cars of coal each year;
—Preventing the sale of 300,000 barrels of oil each year.

Officials marking the new methane power plant at the Bavarian landfill in Walton - the first in Kentucky - couldn't
help themselves from gushing at the potential of the concept.
"It's a win, win situation," said no fewer than seven politicians at the event.
"I know we use the phrase a lot," said Boone County Judge-Executive Gary W. Moore, "but it really applies
in this case. Northern Kentucky has been a leader in so many areas, now we are the leader in something
that will benefit both energy consumers and the environment."
